We quizzed our resident food and culture experts Eliza White and Cassaundra Tan (aka Honan’s MD - Asia and Client Manager respectively) for their top tips for an unforgettable 24 hours in Singapore. They didn’t disappoint! Enjoy, and be sure to bookmark for your next visit to this buzzing economic hub (when that day comes)!
Start your day with a walk at the Botanic Gardens – Singapore isn’t called the garden city for nothing - these Gardens are UNESCO world heritage listed and absolutely stunning. The gardens are constantly being re-landscaped, extended and reimagined, so even if you’ve been before, it’s worth another visit.
Brunch at Common Man Stan - located on Stanley Street, this little gem offers an ideal remedy for your post-walk appetite. Alternatively, head to Dempsey Hill just a stone’s throw from the Botanical Gardens with plenty of dining options. Our top pick is Samy’s Curry for its al fresco dining. Enjoy a curry and sip on a refreshing coconut amongst the lush greenery.
Get your history on at the Battle Box at Fort Canning - this extensive celebration of Singapore’s WWII history served as an incredible underground military command post for the British.
A spot of science - those looking for a fun interactive experience (and a chance to escape the Singapore heat) will love the Art Science Museum - a kid-friendly way to see a different side of the little red dot.
Take the cable car from the main island over to Sentosa, then walk along Tanjong Beach until you reach Tanjong Beach Club. Those looking for a great meal should visit FOC Sentosa - some of the best Spanish fare in Singapore.
Lunch, hawker style. Singapore is known for its mouth-watering food, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than at a hawker. Sink your teeth into chicken rice - bursting with flavour or enjoy Singapore’s famous chilli crab. Too tired to travel to the suburbs? There’s a hawker right in the centre of town called Makansutra.
Don’t forget the durian. You’ll either love it or hate it, but you can’t visit Singapore without giving durian a try. There are lots of varieties available in Geylang - Singapore’s red light district. Remember, you’re only there for the fruit!
A Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel (or a gin and tonic if that’s more your style). If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of your favourite celebrity at the famous bar - our latest spotting was the Manchester United team.
Dinner at Gattopardo for its prawn ravioli or Don Ho on Keong Saik Rd for a delicious Hawaiian dinner. The Tippling Club on Tanjong Pagar Road is also very special. All restaurants are all surrounded by plenty of fun bars, so you can make the most of your time in the area.
Wind down at Marina Bay Sands. For something a little quieter, enjoy a nightcap atop one of the world’s most iconic buildings. With amazing views of the Singapore skyline, Marina Bay Sands will prove the perfect close to your day in the Lion City.
